Allendale Chamber Spearheads Community Service Fund To Support Grand River Greenway Through Allendale
The Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce, with support from the business community, Ottawa County Parks and Recreation Department and the Allendale Community Foundation, is pleased to announce the creation of a community service called the Allendale Trail – Phase 1 Fund.
The Allendale Trail – Phase 1 Fund was created for the purpose of supporting the construction and enhancements of phase one of the Allendale portion of the Grand River Greenway, a non-motorized path, located in Allendale Township. The area includes the section of 60th Avenue from Lincoln south to where the sidewalk begins just north of Lake Michigan Drive. The Grand River Greenway Trail will connect Grand Rapids to the lakeshore. Allendale is one of the last remaining communities needed to connect the already established regional trail system in West Michigan. The goal is to raise $100,000 over the next three years to demonstrate community support and come alongside the Grand River Greenway project in a very proactive way. We already have $25,000 in donations from local business owners coming in. The total estimated cost for that section of trail is $850,000.
It is our hope Allendale Charter Township will be inspired by the demonstration of support from private businesses and individuals and also choose to participate financially as surrounding communities have already done to allow Ottawa County the ability to leverage additional state and federal grant dollars.
